After a legal notice was served to them because of the use of the ‘Gata Kirpaan’ in the poster of Zero, the makers have now have filed a caveat in the Delhi High court. They had also released a statement earlier, defending its use on the poster.
Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt Ltd has filed a caveat in the Delhi High court after it was served a legal notice from Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak committee for allegedly insulting Sikh sentiments in Shah Rukh Khan’s movie ‘Zero’.Reports, ANI
After raising concerns with scenes where a Sikh character was seen smoking in Manmarziyaan, Aanand L Rai found himself in choppy waters yet again for offending Sikhs because of a certain scene in the promo of Zero.
The trailer sees Shah Rukh wearing the ‘Gatra Kirpaan’ (Article of Sikh Faith) a dagger extremely sacred to the Sikhs. This offended members of the Sikh Sangat who complained to the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC).
As per an ANI report, a petition was filed in Bombay High Court by Amritpal Singh Khalsa seeking removal of scenes of Shah Rukh Khan displaying a 'Kirpan'. According to the petition 'display of the Kirpan in such a way is blasphemous’ and the scene should be removed immediately from the film.
Their general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa had earlier said,
I have received a number of complaints from the Sikh Sangat for hurting the sentiments of the Sikhs by movie ‘ZERO’ directed by Aanand L Rai. In the film, Shah Rukh Khan has been shown wearing “Gatra Kirpaan” (Article of Sikh Faith) and their movie promo has created outrage among Sikh community worldwide.Manjinder Singh Sirsa, General secretary, DSGMC.
He filed a complaint against Shah Rukh Khan and Aanand L Rai in a Delhi police station for the same, demanding that that particular scene and poster be withdrawn.
As per the Sikh rehat Maryada only Amritdhari Sikh person can wear the Kirpaan. You are requested to lodge an FIR against Aanand L Rai and actor Shah Rukh Khan and are also requested to stop the promo of the ZERO movie, showing Shah Rukh Khan wearing ‘Gatra Kirpaan’.Manjinder Singh Sirsa, General secretary, DSGMC
The representatives of the film gave a clarification saying their intention was not to demean the ‘Gata Kirpaan’ because the image seen in the trailer is not a Kirpaan.
Sirsa responded to them by saying that Aanand L.Rai and Shah Rukh would have to issue a public statement on the matter and clarify their stand.
Zero starring Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif is slated to release on December 21.
