Contrary to reports flying around about Sanjay Leela Bhansali being “grilled” and “interrogated” about Padmavati by the parliamentary committee (PC) in Delhi on Thursday, inside sources from the meeting say it was extremely fruitful, productive and amicable.

In fact, say sources, both the Padmavati team and the PC ended up working towards the same goal: To find a solution to the current imbroglio.

“Sanjay Bhansali has been very unwell for the past few days. He nonetheless flew in from Mumbai to Delhi on Thursday afternoon with two of his team members. The CBFC chairperson Prasoon Joshi flew in separately. The meeting with the PC lasted for nearly 4 hours. There were 15 members, some of them women. And only one of them, Raj Babbar, represented the film industry. They were all very courteous and well-informed.”

Apparently the mood was informal, conversational and conducive to finding a solution. The PC chief Anurag Thakur had done his homework and knew the facts pertaining to the controversy.

Says the source, “The members of the committee were as keen to find a solution to the Padmavati crisis as Bhansali and his producers. They kept urging Prasoon Joshi to view the film and certify it so that doubts about the content can be laid to rest.”

There was no friction, no heated arguments, no accusations reported.

“The PC treated Bhansali with great courtesy and concern. The one question that everyone kept asking was, where did these controversies start? And why?”

No one had any answers.
