Ranveer & Vicky to Get Leaner, Meaner Looks in KJo’s ‘Takht’

Here’s when the period epic will start shooting.

According to a new report in a daily, Karan Johar’s upcoming magnus opus Takht featuring Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Anil Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar is all set to go on floors in February next year. The report has also revealed new details of Ranveer, Vicky, Anil and Kareena’s characters.

There was a lot of excitement when Karan had first announced the project and its huge cast last year. Known for relationship dramas like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, this is the first time KJo would be attempting a period film. However, after the failure of his production Kalank, there were rumours going around that Takht would be shelved.

Now Mumbai Mirror has reported that the film is definitely on track and will roll in front of cameras in early 2020.

A source close to the newspaper shared that the film will shoot in a start to finish schedule from February 2020. The technical team is already hard at work on the sets and locations. Meanwhile, Karan is having the actors focus on their diction and mannerisms through workshops with special coaches. The source added that the film will feature extensive visual effects which will be done simultaneously with the shooting so that the film can meet its 2020 release date. Special care is going in to make Ranveer look’s different from Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat.

Takht is set in the Mughal Era with Ranveer and Vicky playing emperor Shah Jahan’s dueling sons Dara Shikoh and Aurangzeb respectively. Anil will be essaying the role of Shah Jahan. Kareena will play the boys’ sister, Jahanara Begum while Alia, Janhvi and Bhumi’s roles are still under wraps. Karan has described the film as an “epic battle for the majestic Mughal throne.”
