BJP MLA Diya Kumari, who is the daughter of the last Maharaja of Jaipur, Sawai Bhawani Singh and Padmini Devi, says she will not let Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Padmavati release if the scenes are ‘objectionable’.

As long as we are not fully satisfied with the film and if the objectionable scenes are not removed, we will not let Padmavati release.
BJP MLA Diya Kumari

The BJP MLA’s statement comes after Rajasthan's Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria said appropriate action would be taken against anyone who tries to disturb law and order in the state during the release of the film, which has courted controversy.

He, however, added that if the film had any objectionable content, it should be removed as Rajput queen Padmavati was an icon of India.

If anyone tries to disturb law and order, appropriate action will be taken. Issues can be sorted out through talks, and if there is any objectionable content in the film, it should be removed.
Gulab Chand Kataria, Rajasthan Home Minister

The BJP leader said the figure of Rani Padmavati should not be seen from a caste viewpoint.

Rani Padmavati is an icon of the country, and if there is anything insulting (about her) in the film, it should be corrected.

Protests Erupt in Rajasthan Prior to Release

Since last week, protests have erupted in Rajasthan against the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, even as Gujarat BJP appealed to the Election Commission to stay its release before the polls.

A bandh was observed against the film in Chittorgarh on 3 November .

The reason? Alleged “distortion of facts”, of course.

Chittorgarh, closely associated with Rani Padmini, as Padmavati was also known, has become a hotbed for protests, some of them organised by all-women groups.
