On the occasion of his 52nd birthday, Akshay announced the release date for his latest project, a priod historical titled Prithvitraj. Akshay will portraying the titular role of lengendary Indian king Samrat Prithivirak Chauhan. The film be produced by Yash Raj Films and directed by Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi of Pinjar fame. It is set for release on Diwali 2020 where it will clash with Kangana Ranaut’s actioner Dhaakad.
Akshay took to his instagram to share the news, writing, “Truly happy to share the news of my first historical film on my birthday. I’m humbled to have the opportunity to play a hero I look up to for his valor and values - Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan - in one of my biggest films #Prithviraj produced by @yrf . Directed by #DrChandraprakashDwivedi. #Prithviraj in theatres Diwali 2020.”

The historical epic is believed to be set in the period of 1178-1192 AD. The rest of the cast has not been confirmed yet. There were rumours that Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar is all set to make her Bollywood debut opposite Akshay in the role of Sanyukta.
Akshay is currently in theatres with Mission Mangal, which has emerged as his highest earner yet. He has Good News and Housefull 4 coming up later this year. Akshay also has Sooryanvanshi and Laxmmi Bomb lined up for next year.
