Film: ManmarziyaanDirector: Anurag KashyapCast: Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky KaushalExcerpts from film reviews of Manmarziyaan:Manmarziyaan, Anurag Kashyap’s most emotionally resonant movie yet, injects considerable vim and wit into the most conservative and predictable of sub-genres: the love triangle. Taapsee Pannu is terrific as Rumi, giving no quarter to herself or anybody else in her journey. Rumi goes to extreme lengths to steady her loudly beating heart, and Pannu’s pitch-perfect performance gives us a heroine who is all too human in her ambivalence.Nandini Ramnath (Scroll.in)Strikingly competent, Amritsar-born Kanika Dhillon has written this script, fully soaked in Amritsari ghee, traversing its mohallas and gullies, as it explores the world of the confused young while parents progressively have less influence over their children finding life partners. Tinder perhaps works better for a perfect match. And young-blood infatuation (like love) has its own paagalpan, madness; even if it is relatively short-lived — certainly long enough to last the duration of this movie.Mayank Shekhar (Mid-day.com)On the surface, Manmarziyaan may appear to be a standard love triangle reminiscent of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. But Kanika Dhillon’s writing infuses the characters with such infectious energy it’s hard not to root for them. The beauty of the film is how non-judgemental it is about the characters’ decisions—they are all flawed, complex, three-dimensional people full of self-doubt, people who are constantly second-guessing their own actions. There’s bravura, but under the surface, there’s heart-wrenching vulnerability. And all the actors do a terrific job, delivering career-best performances.Ankur Pathak (Huffingtonpost.in) We'll get through this!
