The trailer to Zoya Akhtar’s upcoming film Gully Boy is out and Mahesh Bhatt seems to approve of daughter Alia’s performance. Starring alongside Ranveer Singh, she plays a spunky young girl who dreams of becoming a doctor.
The director tweeted a picture of Alia with lines from her now infamous dialogue in the film in which she justifies her attacking another woman with a glass bottle to Ranveer saying it was because she was trying to make a pass at her boyfriend. Ranveer in turn calls her a ‘gundi’ (thug).
Bhatt concurred captioning the photo: “Alia is a gundi”.

Directed by Zoya Akhtar, Gully Boy is a story about a young man from Mumbai’s slums who tries to make a name for himself as a rapper. It is loosely based on desi rappers Naved Shaikh and Vivian Fernandes, aka Naezy and Divine, who have seen mainstream success since their song ‘Mere Gully Mein’ went viral in 2015. The film stars Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Vijay Raaz and Kalki Koechlin.
Gully Boy releases on 14 February.
