The much-awaited Karwaan is releasing on 3 August and there’s already a buzz around what appears to be a quirky road film. Starring Irrfan Khan, and introducing southern star Dulquer Salman and Mithila Palkar, the story revolves around three somewhat twisted people on a road trip to collect and deliver a couple of exchanged dead bodies.

Going by the early reviews, the buzz is not misplaced. Karwaan is funny though it does have some issues with the pace of the film. According to Khaleej Times, the characters could have done with some depth as well.

Khurana brings his own unique worldview to the trope-centric tale of estrangement and reconciliation. While Salmaan’s repressed executive and Mithila Palkar’s rebellious collegian were seen repeatedly on-screen in various avatars, Irrfan Khan’s Shaukat, a Muslim wheel dealer who wears his bigotry and benignity on his sleeve with no apology and very little grace, is a unique entity. Likable in his scumming because he doesn’t hide it.... The pace also lacks grace in the second half of the film. But while Khan can make gracelessness look aesthetic, the film, alas, cannot pull off that feat.

All the three characters seem under-cooked and unidimensional. Nothing they do will surprise you on the big screen. Bejoy Nambiar’s story tries to find humour in grave situations and hit the spot only half of the times. What keeps ‘Karwaan’ going is the unflinching Shaukat with his dry humour, peppered with witty one-liners.Revolving around two dead bodies, the film doesn’t mourn the dead but celebrates their life.
