John Abraham’s upcoming Batla House was all set to release on Independence Day, clashing with Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal. However, according to a new report, legal complications could delay the release of John’s film.

Batla House is based on the true incidents surrounding the Batla House encounter case of 2008 which involved alleged Indian Mujahideen terrorists. John plays the role of IPS Sanjeev Kumar who leads the team which carried out the encounter.

On 3 August, two of the surviving accused in the Batla House encounter case, Ariz Khan and Shehzad Ahmad, moved the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on the release.
The plea is likely to come up for hearing next week. The petition has also asked the Centre to conduct a screening of the film before its release on 15 August.

The plea states that the promotional material for the film, and the suggestion that the sequence of events depicted in the film is true, will influence the trial of the case.

“Although the courts discharge their duties in a free and fair manner and are not likely to be affected by events portrayed in a movie...the release of such a movie would prejudice the outcome of the trial. The events portrayed in the film will prejudice the trial especially as there has been an effort to connect the two incidents i.e. Batla House and the Delhi serial blasts,”
Plea

Batla House is directed by Nikkhil Advani and also stars Mrunal Thakur.
