Karan Johar Brings Up the ‘Nepotism’ Debate Again at ‘Ittefaq’ PC

With its release date around the corner, team Ittefaq met with the media to talk about the Sonakshi Sinha, Sidharth Malhotra, and Akshaye Khanna- starrer. And the conversation was led by none other than Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar. From talking about the thriller genre to remaking the 1969 film of the same name, this was a rocking talk for sure.

The Quint brings to you the highlights of the talk.

- Looks like Karan Johar will never let go of any opportunity to take a dig at the nepotism debate or should we say... Kangana Ranaut. At the event, KJo went on to say how Sidharth Malhotra and buddy Shah Rukh were “two non-nepotistic people”, while he and Sonakshi Sinha were products of nepotism. The message? He works with both.

- When it’s SRK in the house, we cannot not expect a good laugh. Karan Johar and the Ittefaq team have been requesting fans not to share spoilers. Even at the event, he said that the media was his “family” and he requested the media to “ tell everyone not to share spoilers about Ittefaq”. Shah Rukh Khan’s reaction to this had the media in splits. He said, “Yeah, only when you have to promote a film, you call them family.”

- You may not have seen any interviews or promotional activities for this movie. Karan Johar made it very clear at the event that they didn’t want to give out the suspense and this strategy has actually helped in intriguing people. Sonakshi quipped that she was extremely happy about it and the lack of promotional events was a welcome change.
