Actor Vineet Singh Kumar who garnered praise for his performance in Mukkabaaz chats with The Quint, about his life. It wasn’t easy for Vineet to make his way into the Hindi film industry where nepotism is the norm and having a godfather, almost a necessary prerequisite.

Vineet belonged to a middle class family and was brought up by a strict, mathematician father, who often asked him to concentrate on his studies. But the rebel always wanted to be an actor.

The actor didn’t toil for a short span of time but it was a struggle that lasted beyond a decade. It continued for 17 long years, after which he got his big break.

In the beginning the actor decided to pursue education as he struggled in India’s Tinseltown. He is a qualified doctor with a degree in Ayurvedic medicine. Talking about his education, he reveals that he only studied for his father. After completing his course, Vineet came to Mumbai to pursue his dream of being an actor.

He came to the island city to participate in a talent hunt in 2000. He won the competition and bagged the movie Pitaah starring Sanjay Dutt. Just when he thought he had made it, the movie flopped.

He has worked in films like Ugly, Gangs of Wassepur, Bombay Talkies and some Bhojpuri TV series. Vineet trained for almost 2 years as a boxer when director Anurag Kashyap decided to direct Mukkabaaz. His first tryst with failure led way to many more setbacks that shaped him and strengthened him.

As soon as Anurag approved him, Vineet left the city to train himself as a boxer. Vineet once said that he had to sell his belongings to get trained as a boxer. It took him more than five months to achieve the reflexes of a boxer and tactfully duck a punch.
