This Independence Day the world’s most expensive edible cake has been dedicated to India and its people. At the request of a client, a Dubai based bakery made a cake worth $40,000 with edible gold coating - to celebrate 70 years of India’s independence. The best part about the cake was its theme - a poster of Aamir Khan’s money-spinner, Dangal.

The cake features Bollywood celebrity Aamir Khan (as Mahavir Singh Phogat) looking on with unwavering conviction as he trains his daughters Geeta and Babita in the akhada. The cake also has gold medals which are replicas of the medal Geeta Phogat won in the 2010 Commonwealth Games Wrestling Finals. Each of these medals are coated with 75 grams of edible gold.

The bakery took 3.5 weeks and 1,200 man-hours to create this cake.

The full model of the cake is 4 feet tall from the base to the tip of Aamir Khan’s head. The overall weight comes to 54 kg. Phew!
