The trailer of Abhinay Deo directorial Doosra just dropped and the two-minute long clip is an insight into the journey of India from the eyes of a little girl.

The trailer begins with a little girl in a small village in India. As she sits with her eyes glued to the television, watching India’s victory against its colonisers in the 2002 Natwest series, something within her brews.

The trailer of Doosra comprises fictional scenes interspersed with documentary-style filmmaking. The trailer also features experts like Shashi Tharoor who share their thoughts about what India’s 2002 victory, under the leadership of Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, meant for India’s identity. As India came of age in 2002, so did the little girl. Both struggling to make peace with themselves and the world around them.

The film stars Plabita Bolthakur, Ankur Vikal, Samidha Guru, Tvisha Seema, Krishna Gokani. It is directed by Abhinay Deo.

Doosra is about the journey of India as it embarks on a path at the turn of a millennium. According to the trailer, 1947 was India’s political freedom, 1991 was India’s economic freedom and 2002 was India’s emotional freedom.

According to the filmmakers, “Both stories have their principal characters fighting the demons of tradition, classism and orthodoxy. What brings the two narratives to a head is a single event: When Captain Sourav Ganguly pulls off his shirt and waves it bare-chested from the altar cricket - the balcony at Lords in London - to celebrate India’s victory in the 2002 NatWest final against their erstwhile colonial rulers.”
