Luv Ranjan’s most recent romantic comedy De De Pyaar De released in theatres across India on 17 May. The film stars Ajay Devgn, Tabu, and Rakul Preet Singh in leading roles.
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, De De Pyaar De had a rough start in the first half of Friday. However, it picked up in the latter half of the day.
“#DeDePyaarDe picked up towards evening after a dull start... Occupancy was higher in evening/night shows... Strong reports should ensure a turnaround on Day 2 and 3... Fri ₹ 10.41 cr [incl Thu previews]. India biz..” he wrote on Twitter.
The film is directed by first-timer Akiv Ali and written and produced by Luv Ranjan. The plot of De De Pyaar De revolves around a 50-year-old man, played by Devgn, who falls for a girl (Rakul Preet Singh) almost his daughter’s age. Tabu plays Ajay Devgn’s former wife in the film. The film also stars Jimmy Shergill.
Just before its release, the makers of De De Pyaar De were asked to replace a bottle of liquor held by Rakul Preet Singh in one of the scenes with a bouquet of flowers instead. The scene is from the song ‘Vaddi Sharaban’.
De De Pyaar De makers have released several songs from the film like ‘Chale Aana’, ‘Hauli Hauli’, ‘Mukhda Vekh Ke’, and ‘Vadi Sharaban’. Earlier, they also released a poster of the film in which Ajay Devgn can be seen sitting on a scooter in between Tabu and Rakul.
The first poster of the film was released on 22 March.
The trailer of De De Pyaar De was received well by audiences due to its unusual storyline which seeks to maturely tackle the issue of age gap.
“It’s a winning combination, and Tabu – who can lift up a scene by merely being in the frame – wields her magic here too. The film owes a lot to Tabu and Ajay’s very easy chemistry. They are the “mature” couple and it’s a welcome respite from Ajay-Rakul Preet’s jumpy, chirpy bubblegum romance,” writes film critic Stutee Ghosh.
