Marathi actor Chirag Patil is the latest to join the cast of upcoming sports drama 83. He will essay the role of his father Sandeep Patil who was part of the cricket team behind India’s historic win at the 1983 World Cup.

The Kabir Khan directorial stars Ranveer Singh, who plays former Indian skipper Kapil Dev, as well as Punjabi singer-actor Ammy Virk and YouTuber Sahil Khattar.

“The ’83 World Cup win is considered a milestone in Indian history and to be a part of that team is a dream come true and playing my father, who is my hero, is just awesome,” said Chirag in an interview with Mumbai Mirror.

Sandeep Patil welcomed the news and wished his son well. “Getting a chance and getting a stage to perform is a big deal. Not everyone gets the opportunity and that too with a director like Kabir Khan and and producer Madhu Mantena. Now the ball is in Chirag’s court and I wish him all the best. I won’t visit him on the set but I have shown him how to match my signature shots,” he said.
