Reel Deal: Bollywood Films to Look Forward to in 2nd Half of 2019
Bollywood’s slate of releases for the second half of 2019 looks quite exciting. The trade has high expectations from big ticket films like Housefull 4, Super 30, Dabangg 3, Saaho (Prabhas’s next) and The Fighters (Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff), as these films are expected to bring in big money.
But there are also many interesting medium budget films like Mission Mangal (multi-starrer on India’s mars orbiter mission in 2008), The Sky Is Pink (Shonali Bose directed Priyanka Chopra, Zaira Wasim and Farhan Akhtar starrer), Bala (Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer comedy), Chhichhore (Dangal director Nitesh Tiwari’s next), Batla House (thriller based on a true incidents of the Batla House encounter), among many others, that have big potential to set the box office on fire.
In this week’s episode of Reel Deal, we look at the Bollywood films to look forward to in the second half of 2019, identify the dark horses and speak to movie business analyst Atul Mohan about the trade expectations for the remaining part of the year.

The first half of 2019 has been a great one for Bollywood, with earnings of over Rs 2000 crore. If things continue to go well, the film industry could earn around 15 to 20 percent more than it did in 2018.
Interestingly though, this year there are no Shah Rukh Khan or Aamir Khan releases around Diwali or Christmas. Both the stars had a disappointing run at the box office last year though. Aamir’s Thugs of Hindostan, which released in Diwali, and SRK’s Zero which released on Christmas 2018, had failed at the box office. This year though, we will have Salman Khan’s Dabangg 3, which releases on the Christmas weekend.
But the audience’s viewing patterns have changed over the years. Its not just the stars, but the content of the film that brings them to the theatres. So here’s hoping that the content in the second half of 2019 is better than the first half.
