The trailer of Arjun Rampal’s production ‘Daddy’ – in which he also stars as the lead – is finally out, and it looks like a gritty retro flashback.

Set in 1970s Mumbai, Daddy is based on the true story of Arun Gulab Gawli, once the feared mobster of Mumbai’s underworld and Dawood Ibrahim’s arch rival, and now a politician.

The film seems to come from the heart of south Mumbai’s streets, Dagdi Chawl in Byculla, where Gawli’s gang operated from.

Rampal, with his searing intensity, seems like the perfect fit to essay the role of a brooding gangster. The look of the film is distinctly 70s – which means bell bottoms and funky spectacle frames are back. We haven’t seen Rampal in a while (not since the debacle that was Rock On 2!). Here’s hoping Daddy treats him better.
