Bollywood has been obsessed with making biopics and actor Akshay Kumar is one of the key players - from Airlift, Padman and now Gold.

Gold is based on a man called Tapan Das, manager of pre-independence hockey team. He was an alcoholic, a cheat but that man dreamt of getting independent India a gold medal in hockey and he did. Gold is his story, essayed by Akshay Kumar.

But through this film, the actor is not just trying to tell an individual’s story but he also wants to emphasis the importance of sports. We caught up with the actor who himself is a fitness freak and plays Volleyball regularly. He says that the film Gold is a sports drama, based on true incidents. But it’s not just about hockey.

There is hockey and all in the film but what I want to say in the film is, every male and female in our country should adopt one sport. It doesn’t matter what sport you take.

Akshay’s teenage son Aarav trains in martial arts and is already a blackbelt. And when asked about what kind of sports his daughter Nitara plays - he laughs and gives details of her running around for hours with a bat in her hand.

Akshay’s biopics always have a commercial touch to it, from songs to drama. Unlike a lot of other biopics like Paan Singh Tomar, Mary Kom, the actor has no qualms in accepting the fact that it is a deliberate step to keep the film ‘massy’, so that it can grab maximum eyeballs.

I want biopics to be a little commercial. There are few songs in it, but in real life, he (Tapan Das) has never sung a song. We show one or two disagreements in the film, in real life, it never happened. But you should put some commercial aspects so that people enjoy watching it.

Another biopic that Akshay was supposed to be a part of was Mogul which was based on the life of Gulshan Kumar but even after the release of the poster, the actor confirms that he is no longer a part of the project.

No, I am not part of Mogul. I am not doing it. We did not agree on the script.

At one point he was our only action hero but over the years Akshay Kumar has made us laugh, cry, fall in love and inspired us with the different kind of characters he has played on screen. His career graph has only grown upwards and he is also very happy with his growth and the phase that he is in right now. He says that this is the best phase of his career. Because, at one point he was stuck with the action-hero tag and he was tired of doing the same thing over and over again everyday.

There was no growth. I would call this phase a much better phase because I can do lots of things. I am doing Kesari as an action film, comedy as Housefull 4 and so many social films also. In different different ways, I get to play so many characters.

Talking about Housefull 4, Akshay recently finished the first scheduled of the film in UK and it says it was like a paid holiday.

Akshay Kumar might be seen doing a lot of biopics but one biopic that he is really not interested in, is his own. He is pretty clear about the fact that he will never make a biopic on himself. Not even write a biography.

There are so many biopics to be made, there are so many amazing humans who have turned India in their own way towards positive direction. I’ll be a fool to make a biopic on myself. I would never even think of it. It will be a very shallow thing to do, for myself.

He admits that the song 'Hum hai seedhe saadhe Akshay Akshay' embarrases him enough to hide his face in shame.
