The film had been embroiled in controversy for months and the time before release was extremely tense, as the makers feared outrage from the Karni Sena. But all this seems to have piqued the curiosity towards the film as it took a bumper opening of Rs 32 crores. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhasali and loosely based on the epic poem Padmavati, Padmaavat stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati - a Rajput queen known for her beauty - who is the wife of Maharawal Ratan Singh, played by Shahid Kapoor. Sultan Alauddin Khilji, played by Ranveer Singh, plays the tyrant ruler who attacks their kingdom to claim her. The film ended up reaching the Rs 100 crore mark in the first weekend itself.

Luv Ranjan’s rom-com starring Kartik Aaryan, Nushrat Bharucha and Sunny Singh set the cash registers ringing with its humor and chart-busting music. The film was a smash hit and crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in the fourth week of its release.

A remake of the Telugu movie Kshanam, Baaghi 2 starring Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor also crossed the Rs 100 crore mark, courtesy Tiger’s crazy fan following and great music. It was a masala entertainer and provided enough to satisfy the ‘masses’.

The film is inspired by the real life income-tax raid conducted by the officers of the Income Tax Department under the leadership of a courageous and upright Indian Revenue Service officer in the 1980s. Starring Ajay Devgan and Ileana D’cruz, it was the fourth film of 2018 to cross the Rs 100 crore mark.

It also became the second Bollywood film after Tanu Weds Manu Returns with a female central protagonist to cross Rs 100 crore, and did so by the end of the third week post release.
