A still from the ‘Pinga’ song of Bajirao Mastani.

Bajirao’s descendant Mohini Karkarey has slammed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali over his portrayal of historical characters in his film Bajirao Mastani. In an open letter to the director, Karkarey, who claims to be a descendant of the Peshwas, has pointed out certain factual errors in Bhansali’s upcoming film.

With specific reference to the Pinga song, in which Priyanka Chopra (who plays Kashibai) and Deepika Padukone (who plays Mastani) are seen dancing together, Karkarey has this to say:

Fact 1: Kashibai Saheb was suffering from tuberculosis and had arthritis. Due to this she had a limp.

Fact 2: Kashibai would never get into a dance routine even if she was healthy because that was not in the culture.

Fact 3: The costumes shown in the song Pinga were never worn by royal families or even normal women. The way the nauvari was draped did not show even an ounce of skin.
