Akshay Kumar is back with another riveting thriller Airlift, a story based on India’s biggest evacuation ever, where 1,70,000 Indians trapped in Kuwait during the Gulf War of 1990, were brought back safely to Indian soil. Check out the brand new trailer here.

We’ve loved Akshay’s serious yet comic roles in Baby and Special 26, and the Airlift teaser brings back Akshay’s rough and tough avatar with this edge of the seat drama. Akshay Kumar plays the role of an influential businessman settled in Kuwait, who loses everything he has worked hard to achieve, and the man responsible for it is Saddam Hussein.

The female lead opposite Akshay Kumar is the talented Nimrat Kaur, who plays his wife in Airlift.

Directed by Raja Krishna Menon, Airlift will hit theatres on January 22nd, 2016. Looks like 2016 will take us right back to 1990. In the run up to the trailer release, Akshay Kumar has been sharing bits of information about the film and India’s greatest evacuation mission. The actor also said that he’s proud to be a part of this incredible story, for which India set a Guinness world record for the safe evacuation of 1,70,000 people over 59 days.

Akshay shared the film’s first look and teaser via Twitter. This film captures the plight of Indian refugees stuck in a war torn land and brings out the love for one’s motherland, that the characters seem to have forgotten they even had.
