Moving away from all the controversy surrounding Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, here’s something about the film that is straight up clear. The music is amazing, versatile and alive! Pritam’s churned out some great tunes with this one and Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics are soul stirring. While we wait to find out how the film does at the box office, soak in the music.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil Title Track
Arijit Singh is flying away with this one. The words and the emotions of ADHM’s title track are poetic and evolved. Tune diya hai jo, woh dard hi sahi, tujh se mila hai toh, inaam hai mera, is my favourite verse in the whole track. The gloom and angst of this number, along with Ranbir’s intense looks makes it a winner for me.
Bulleya
The sufi track Bulleya is a chartbuster. Amit Mishra and Shilpa Rao have managed to give this soulful number a dimension that brings out the characters and their situation so beautifully. This one surely is loop worthy and has been right on top of my playlist all week. Bulleya also brings together the best of rock and sufi to give us a track that’ll rock any road trip.
Channa Mereya
This subtle wedding song will leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling. Amitabh Bhattacharya weaves absolute magic here and Arijit Singh only makes it sublime. Ranbir Kapoor plays the part of a singer in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and not for a minute do we doubt that. That’s how well Arijit Singh understands the nuances of on-screen performance and the character’s emotions.
Breakup Song
If you’re a bit tired of the brooding sufi numbers, the Breakup Song brings the perfect quirk. This one even has Badshah rapping away with Arijit Singh, Jonita Gandhi & Nakash Aziz doing a fabulous job of the rest of it. Truly versatile, truly funky and all set to be the party favourite this year. What I love the most about this groovy number is the fusion of folk beats, a witty rap, catchy lyrics and a sentiment that every listener will surely identify with.
Cutiepie
Who could ever think of having a song called Cutiepie? Well, Pritam of course! It’s filmi, punjabi, fun and just alive. Pardeep Singh Sran and Nakash Aziz have done wonders for this mehendi number. You’ve surely never heard anything like it, so go on, let it make you grin.
Alizeh
Pritam sprinkles a little bit of Ash King to give the ADHM music album a dreamy ending. Arijit Singh and Shashwat Singh add their magic to this slow number dedicated to Alizeh, the film’s centeral character played by Anushka Sharma. We haven’t seen the video for this one yet, but the song is enough to get us swaying. Give it a listen here.
There’s hardly a track you wouldn’t enjoy in the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil audio album. It’s experimental, fresh and uplifting. Pritam’s been criticised in the past for being unoriginal, but every single track in here will get you humming and dancing. With almost 100 million audio streams within the first week of its release, the music of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is rocking 2016.
