Millat Bedari Muhim Committee (MBMC), a fringe group, is coercing movie exhibitors into canceling the screening of the movie ‘Aligarh’ in its namesake city, according to The Indian Express.

The reason? The group says the title of the film – which is based on Professor Ramchandra Siras who was suspended from Aligarh Muslim University in 2010 after being filmed having consensual sex with a man – is disgracing the reputation of the city, according to the report.

The Secretary of the group, Jasim Mohammad, reportedly said that though the film wasn’t ‘officially’ banned, the group has ensured that it doesn’t screen in any theatres in Aligarh.
