Rajinikanth-Akshay-starred 2.0 has emerged as the third highest grossing Hindi film of 2018 after Sanju and Padmaavat according to reports. In the two weeks since its release, it has earned Rs 166.75 crore, putting it ahead of Salman Khan’s Race 3.
In response to the film’s success, Rajinikanth was quoted by IANS as saying, “I need to thank audiences across the globe for the success of 2.0. The entire credit for the victory goes to director Shankar, producer Subaskaran of Lyca Productions and the technicians."
The blockbuster stayed strong at the box office in its second weekend, despite the release of Sara Ali Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput’s Kedarnath.
“Expected to show substantial growth on second Sat and Sun... Will cross ₹ 150 cr today... [Week 2] Fri 5.85 cr. Total: ₹ 145.60 cr. India biz. Note: HINDI version,” predicted trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
Meanwhile, the film has already raked in Rs 500 crore worldwide.
As earlier figures suggest, 2.0 has had a good run at the box office ever since its release.
And of course presenter Karan Johar couldn’t be happier.
Shankar’s 2.0 was hailed as a VFZ extravaganza, even though some people complained about the weak story line. The film brought Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar on the big screen for the first time. On day 1 the Hindi version of the film earned Rs 20 crore at the box office and went on to earn Rs 18 crore on the second day of its release.
As per reports, the first day of the film saw huge footfalls in cinema halls across the board. From this tweet by the makers, it seems the film is performing well at the box-office.
Trade analyst Girish Johar told The Indian Express, “The Hindi version of the film is expected to earn something between Rs 20-25 crore on the day of its release. If we consider all languages (Tamil and Telugu), the Rajinikanth starrer will touch Rs 100 crore (gross) mark on day one.”

Akshay Kumar plays a menacing baddie in the film and Rajinikanth plays the role of Dr. Vashikaran and robot Chitti. The film also features Amy Jackson in the role of a humanoid named Lina. Akshay Kumar is Pakshiraaj, an ornithologist battling it out against telecom service providers for the sake of birds’ existence.
The film showcases a visual spectacle in the form of a battle between Chitti and Pakshiraaj as the latter tries to remove mobile technology from the face of the planet and also those who come in his way.
