Priyanka Chopra is making Bollywood proud of all her achievements on foreign soil, but I’m proud of her for speaking up on behalf of women all over the world. On The View, an American talk show, Priyanka spoke up as quite the bold feminist. The Bajirao Mastani actress shared her experience of body shaming with her beautiful co-hosts, and it shocked everyone.

Not only did Priyanka just end all speculations about her having had a nose job, but she also put body shakers in the ‘haters’ category, where they rightly belong. But Priyanka’s story of rejection is heart breaking.

Before I became an actress I met a producer. We were talking about the possibility of me becoming an actress. I was Miss World then. He said that everything about me was wrong.

He said that my nose was not proportionate and the shape of my body wasn’t right. I was told to change everything.

Priyanka’s American co-hosts also shared their horror stories of being subjected to sexist and downright insensitive comments. But they were blown away by hers. Priyanka couldn’t care less about body shamers and nay sayers, and says that she’s completely okay with her body weight fluctuating.

There’s a false perception of what women should look like, especially in this business. You put on a couple of pounds and people body shame you. It happens, Christmas happens to all of us. I’m Indian, we have Diwali, Holi and a hundred other holidays, we eat. My body fluctuates and you know what, I’m fine with it.

But even more than body shaming, Priyanka’s thoughts on women’s body clocks deserve a slow clap.

As a public person myself, I don’t think it is the responsibility of Janet Jackson or Beyonce to serve as examples. Beyonce’s just a girl, who makes music and she’s been a working woman, worked all her life. She didn’t maybe have the time to have kids at that time and she’s decided to do it right now. I don’t think she should have the pressure and the onus of having to serve as an example to humanity. She’s a girl having two children.

The fearlessly frank actress also had a lot to say about Donald Trump’s tweet defending his daughter in the Nordstrom controversy. What a pro!

For all those who believe that celebrities don’t have the right to have an opinion or express it, take that!
