In a unique initiative, Akshay Kumar in partnership with the Home Ministry, will help build a web application through which citizens can volunteer to provide financial aid directly to the kin of martyred army personnel. The Jolly LLB 2 star visited the ministry on Friday to discuss the proposal with home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and central paramilitary officials.

According to a report by Times of India, the ministry has fully backed the initiative with its own experts joining Akshay's team to develop the app.

Incidentally, Akshay took to social media a couple of days back to share the idea with his fans:

According to Akshay’s proposal, when a central force personnel gets killed in the line of duty, details of his identity, financial status of his family, number of dependents and verified details of bank account of next of kin would be uploaded on the ministry website. People can then use the app to cut through all the red tape to directly deposit their contributions into the account. Once the total contributions reach Rs 15 lakh, the details would be removed from the website. Contributions will be eligible for income-tax deductions.

Though government websites offer options to extend financial help to martyr’s kin, these are not well-publicised. Also, officialdom delays the process. The app will simplify things, with the home ministry website and Akshay’s involvement as a brand ambassador offering it wide publicity.
