An annual jaded affair, without any drastic revelation – who is dating whom, who belongs to which Bollywood camp, and steering away from any political comments. So when Stardust Awards 2016 awards was telecast on Sunday evening amidst the usual fanfare – Bachchans parivar seated next to each other, Kapoors (Neetu and Rishi) were placed together, meanwhile, beta Kapoor sat a few seats away. The sad editing shots where Priyanka Chopra seem to have one expression for every performance and award (so much for being a global icon). And the stunning Rekha winning her 11th lifetime award (err, that’s less of an award and more of a record).
But the most unusual thing about the award show was how it turned into a Sooraj Barjatya Award show, high on sanskari quotient. Pahlaj Kaka, was this your doing??
There were a few filmy moments that were the highlights of the evening.
Iulia Makes Her Grand Debut
Salman Khan’s alleged girlfriend Iulia Vantur made an electrifying debut. She owned the stage and made merry with the Khandaan of Bollywood. Iulia danced the night away with her favourite ‘hero’ songs – Main hoon hero, Teri meri prem kahaani and Jumme ki raat. And later on, shared the stage with King Khan. Shah Rukh Khan asked her if Romania knows who Salman Khan is and she wittily replied, “they are now getting to know him”. Now, is this a cue for us?
All Iz Well Between Bhai and Arijit?
Arijit Singh finally sang his way into Salman Khan’s good books. Ironically, it had to be an award show to get things right between the Channa Mereya singer and the Tubelight actor.
When Arijit went to collect his award for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, the singer sang a few lines from the blockbuster hit Channa Mereya. He greeted the actor with this line – “Mere zikr ka zubaan pe swaad rakhna”... and Sallu bhai acknowledged and reciprocated this gesture.
We guess the light of forgiveness found its way to Arijit from Salman.
Sanskari Awards
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was a perfect adarsh bahu and touched her pa-in-law Amitabh Bachchan’s feet when the latter handed her an award for Sarbjit. And when the ‘awe’ and the ashirwaad was done, Mrs Bachchan decided to share her special moment with her pati parmeshwar Abhishek Bachchan (who was one of the hosts).
Not just the Bachchans, even Kapoors gave equal takad when it came to ‘lovin’ your family’. Beta Kapoor was proud to give his papa an award for best Best Supporting Actor for Kapoor and Sons. And Neetu shared a cute kiss when Rishi won the award.
