Personal To Political: Priyanka’s Twitter Journey In Seven Tweets
Priyanka Gandhi had 22,000 followers the day she joined Twitter.
Priyanka Gandhi joining Twitter was as exciting as her formally joining politics. A few days after being appointed as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary from Uttar Pradesh East, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra joined the Twitter family on 11 February.
We browsed her Twitter handle to see how the journey has been so far. She only has seven tweets so far, but all of them have received anywhere between 25K and 45K likes.
In her first two tweets from 12 March, Priyanka quoted Gandhi along with a picture of the Sabarmati Ashram.
On 12 March, she spoke at her maiden rally in Gujarat where she took on the ruling party and urged the citizens of India to question the government. On 14 March, Sushmita Dev, national spokesperson of AICC tweeted about how Priyanka’s speech in Gujarat stood out.
Sushmita said she liked how Priyanka began her speech with “Beheno aur bhaiyo” instead of the usual “Bhaiyo aur beheno.”
Priyanka retweeted this with the comment, “and I thought no one noticed” with a wink emoji. The tweet garnered 33K likes and 7K retweets.
On 16 March, Priyanka’s tweet condemned the New Zealand Christchurch mosque shootings. “Hatred is never benign,” she said.
When Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parikkar passed away on 17 March, Priyanka tweeted about the only time she met the BJP leader. “I met him only once, when he graciously visited my mother at the hospital two years ago. May his soul rest in peace,” she tweeted.
Another tweet of hers was about her memories of Indira Gandhi. Priyanka tweeted a photograph of the room in Swaraj Bhawan, Parayagraj, where her grandmother Indira Gandhi was born. The tweet went on to say how she remembers listening to her grandmother reading parts from Joan Of The Arc to her. “She said, be fearless and all will be good,” Priyanka penned down in a sentimental tweet.
Priyanka’s latest tweet (at the time of writing this story) was on 18 March where she posted a picture of women students from Allahabad University.
Priyanka Gandhi was followed by as many as 22,000 users the day she joined Twitter. More than a month later, the number of followers stands at 281K. It looks like she is pretty ‘liked’ among the Twitter family.
