Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi is facing flak for two communally loaded tweets. One mentions Zaira Wasim, the actress who announced her decision to leave Bollywood, recently. “Halala is allowed but acting is haraam. Will India’s Muslims progress this way?” he tweeted. (need translation here)

‘INC People Becoming Loose Cannons’

Journalist Rana Safvi responded to this tweet with shock , “Didn't expect this kind of horrible tweet from a verified handle of a Congress leader. But then.”

Journalist Abhisar Sharma said, “He did not remember Halala until 2019. Look at what his shameless Congress government did in Rajasthan with a dead man called Pehlu Khan.” Abhisar was talking of reports that said Pehlu Khan and his sons were charged for smuggling cattle.

“Have you seen any of your Muslim colleague practise Halala?” asked another Twitter user who added, “bigots in Congress”.

“Without obvious and effective leadership, we must be very afraid-- INC people are becoming random loose cannons,” said one Twitter user.

One Twitter user explained to Singhvi that Halala is neither legitimate nor is a common practice among Muslims. “You are creating your own reality of Islam to demonize Muslims and hound an 18 year old girl. Shame on you,” he tweeted.

One Twitter user asked Singhvi to talk in a slightly more civilised tone. “This is the language of Twitter trolls,” he cautioned him.

The Second Tweet on Temple Vandalism in Old Delhi

In another tweet on 3 July, he talked about the vandalism of a temple in Old Delhi. He said, “We know the ruling party doesn’t care about minorities but does it also not care for the sentiments of majority?” he tweeted.

Twitter users asked why Singhvi was trying to stoke hatred when the cops “have tried to resolve the crisis amicably, is this the stand of Congress?”

“Stop agitation unnecessarily,” said another Twitter user. “Law will take it's course and justice will be served,” he wrote.
