China has yet again blocked the move to designate Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar as a ‘global terrorist’ by the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday, 13 March.

The move comes days after the Jaish’s attack in Pulwama where 40 Indian soldiers were killed. India said it was "disappointed by this outcome".

Twitterati, too, was disappointed. Hashtags BoycottChineseProducts and MasoodAzhar were trending.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi called Modi ‘weak’.

KPCC President Dinesh Gundu Rao called the situation ‘pathetic’. China is openly supporting a known terrorist Masood Azhar and all Modi can express is disappointment, he tweeted.

Call To Boycott Chinese Products

It is the 4th time China is blocking UNSC from tagging Masood Azhar a global terrorist, said one Twitter user. He asked Indians to #BoycottChineseProducts.

Some Twitter users were of the view that boycotting Chinese products is not the answer.

Questions on Modi’s Diplomacy

Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said it was a sad day in the global fight against terrorism and that Modi’s foreign policy has been a series of diplomatic disasters.

Why are Bhakts trending #BoycottChineseProducts without criticising Modi’s diplomacy, asked some.

This raises serious questions about the benefits of Modi’s photo-op diplomacy with Xi Jinping, said one Twitter user.

Irony of The Red Eye

Some Twitter users took a jibe at Modi for the claims he made in his election speeches. Modi had talked about having a 56-inch-chest and showing ‘red-eyes’ to China.

Decoding The Problem

Journalist Barkha Dutt said it is time to understand that India’s problem is China, much more in some ways than Pakistan.

Another journalist said the UN will remain a farce as long as India is not on the Security Council. It is imperative that India has a voice, he said.

India cannot afford to act whimsically against China, said some. It is time to introspect.

India must reciprocate strongly over Taiwan, said journalist Minhaz Merchant.

The Nehru Narrative Again

And then there were others who said it was Nehru who gifted the UNSC seat to China in 1950 and this is the repercussion of that act.
