Following a meeting with the leaders of the Mahagathbandhan in Patna, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday, 29 May, said the party "stays strong" despite a defeat in 2019 Lok Sabha polls, adding they will make a come back in the Assembly polls.

Yadav also said the RJD will go to Delhi in the next two days, for a meeting with Congress chief Rahul Gandhi. According to ANI, Wednesday's meet at Rabri Devi's residence was not attended by their ally Congress.

“Congress party has invited us for the meeting in Delhi, where election results will be discussed. We are in touch with Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Ahmed Patel and others. We will participate in the meeting there.”

The RJD is a part of the five-member Mahagathbandhan helmed by the Congress.

Except for the seat of Kisanganj won by the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party, Janata Dal (United) and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) together (as NDA) bagged 39 out of a total 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, annihilating the Opposition.

‘Party Stays Strong’

Yadav's remarks on party's "unity" comes amid speculations on trouble within the RJD.

“Winning-defeat are part of the game and we have not lost hope. The alliance is strong and will tackle all the challenges together,” he said.

Senior RJD legislator Maheshwar Prasad Yadav on Monday asked Tejashwi Yadav to resign from the post of Leader of Opposition (LoP) and take moral responsibility for the the party’s defeat, PTI reported.

Another leader, Maheshwar Yadav, an RJD MLA from Gaighat Assembly constituency in Muzaffarpur district, had alleged that parivarwad (family politics) and Lalu’s affection for his family has cost the party the most. He claimed that the party will break if his demand is not met.

On 26 May, the only three legislators of the Rashtriya Lok Samata Party, which is also a part of the Mahagathbandhan, joined the Nitish Kumar-led JD(U).
