Taking a fresh jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi in a rally in Haryana on Monday, 6 May, called the prime minister a "boxer" and said he was "supposed to fight corruption and unemployment" but turned around and "punched" veteran BJP leader, LK Advani.
Gandhi was speaking at Haryana’s Bhiwani district where he alleged that PM Modi has ignored advice from Advani and further sidelined him.
"During the last Lok Sabha polls, India chose a new boxer Narendra Modi who entered the ring with his 56-inch chest. He was supposed to fight corruption and fight unemployment, agrarian crisis and corruption, but instead he turned towards his coach LK Advani and punched him."
"After this, the people were left bewildered at what this boxer was doing because he had no idea what he had to fight against," said the Congress chief.
“Now, the knocked out boxer is lying on the floor of the ring and punching in the air,” he said, adding that the people of the country are going to vote Modi out of power.
The Congress chief reiterated the alleged wrongdoings in the Rafale jet deal claiming that Modi gave Rs 30,000 crore to an industrialist's company.
"Farmers’ loans were not waived, but fugitives were given money and they fled the country," he alleged.
‘Congress Will Never Insult Armed Forces’
Gandhi further spoke about the Indian army and said that the Congress will never “insult” the armed forces, adding that if it comes to power, the Congress will “give martyr status to the paramilitary forces who lay down their lives for our country.”

“If any country thinks it can create terrorist activities in India, they will get a reply. The army is of the country and not of PM Narendra Modi,” he added.
From Bhiwani-Mahendergarh Lok Sabha constituency, Congress has fielded its former MP Shruti Choudhary, grand daughter of former Haryana chief minister, late Bansi Lal, and daughter of sitting MLA Kiran Choudhary.
Shruti, among others, is pitted against Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) sitting MP Dharamvir.
The Lok Sabha constituency, along with other ten seats of Haryana, goes to polls on May 12 in the sixth phase of the ongoing general elections.
