Narendra Modi was on Thursday, 30 May, sworn in as the Prime Minister for a second consecutive term, helming a 58-member ministry including himself, with BJP chief Amit Shah making his debut at the Centre and former foreign secretary S Jaishankar emerging as a surprise pick.
Leaders from across the political spectrum congratulated Modi on his new stint in governance, while the parliamentarians, who were sworn-in as cabinet ministers vowed to give their best to take the country’s development agenda forward.
BJP president Amit Shah, said he will put his best efforts to serve the country and thanked Modi for reposing faith in him.
Shah also described Modi's swearing-in for a second term as “historic” and expressed confidence that India will continue to scale new heights under his able leadership.
‘Grateful for the Opportunity’: Sushma Swaraj
India’s outgoing foreign minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted a ‘thank you’ note for the Prime Minister after the new council of ministers was announced. In a tweet, Sushma thanked Modi for giving her the opportunity to serve the people and for the respect she received during the last five years.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Narendra Modi for becoming Prime Minister for a second term and conveyed his wishes to “take India further on the path of inclusive development.”
“Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership we will give our best,” the Lok Janshakti Party Chief Ram Vilas Paswan said.
Anurag Thankur, who took oath as a minster of state, said he will serve the country “in the best of his capacity.”
Dharmendra Pradhan, who helped the BJP make inroads in Odisha, said “I commit myself wholeheartedly in the service of the nation and towards fulfilling Hon’ble PM's vision of a developed, inclusive & progressive new India.”
Along with Pradhan, Pratap Sarangi who was also inducted into Modi's council of ministers said, “We will give our best in our new role, this will help in taking the country's development agenda forward.”
Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Smriti Irani, Nirmala Sitharaman and Prakash Javadekar were among the 36 cabinet ministers who were sworn in on Thursday, 30 May for a second term.
While 24 cabinet ministers were sworn-in the Modi government, nine took oath as ministers of state (Independent charge) and 24 others as ministers of state.
‘Pity Not to See Sushma, Jaitley in the Cabinet’: Omar Abdullah
National Conference leader Omar Abdullah congratulated the newly sworn-in ministers and said it was a pity that health issues had kept former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley out of the Cabinet.
Outgoing Minister for Commerce and Industry Suresh Prabhu said, he was very fortunate to have served the society and the country under the leadership of Modi and asserted that the new team will do a great job.

Meanwhile, the Congress which is reeling from one of its worst electoral performances yet, congratulated the new Cabinet and said, “We wish them the best & look forward to working with them on the growth & development of India & all its citizens.”
