With the conclusion of the sixth phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections on Sunday, 12 May, Delhi remained ahead of Mumbai in terms of the voter turnout, but saw a marginal fall when compared to its own 2014 statistics.
According to the figures by the Election Commission, the seven parliamentary seats in the capital, which went to polls in the penultimate phase, saw an overall turnout of 60.51 percent, compared to its 2014 haul of 65 percent.
Meanwhile, Mumbai, which voted in the fourth phase of this year’s parliamentary elections, saw the highest turnout since 1989, but stood behind Delhi at 55.1 percent.
Moreover, when compared to the other metropolitan cities, Delhi stood neck-and-neck with Gurugram.
Haryana, which also polled on Sunday, witnessed 70.22 percent voting in its 10 Lok Sabha seats, with Gurugram recording a turnout of 67.37 percent .
The sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections covering 59 constituencies across six states registered a turnout of 64.27 percent compared to 63.37 percent in 2014.
The final phase of Lok Sabha polls will take place on 19 May while results will be declared on 23 May.
