EC Writes to President over Rajasthan Governor's Comments on PM
The Election Commission is learnt to have written to President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday pointing to the violation of model code of conduct by Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh for making political comments, reported news agency PTI.
The poll panel had on Monday concluded that Singh's remarks supporting the return of Narendra Modi as prime minister violate the model code and is learnt to have written to President Kovind flagging the issue.
Sources in the know said, since Singh holds a constitutional post, the Election Commission wrote to President.
Reasons why the Election Commission felt that his remarks were against the spirit of the poll code have been given, they said.
Congress Clears Six Candidates from Punjab For Lok Sabha Polls
The Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Congress has cleared the nominees for six out of 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab.
All four sitting MPs have been renominated from their constituencies. Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar has been fielded from Gurdaspur, Ravneet Bittu from Ludhiana, Santokh Chaudhary from Jalandhar, Gurjit Aujla from Amritsar.
Amarinder’s wife Preneet Kaur has been retained from Patiala and Chabbewal MLA Raj Kumar Chabbewal will be party nominee from the reserved seat of Hoshiarpur.
AAP Legislator Dares Alka Lamba to Join Congress
In a twitter war, Aam Aadmi Party MLA and spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj dared fellow party MLA Alka Lamba to join the Congress, reported news agency IANS.
The Twitter war between the two started when Chandni Chowk MLA Lamba reacted to the manifesto of Congress released on Tuesday.
She said, every party has its manifesto and the Congress in its manifesto promised full statehood for Puducherry but nothing on Delhi.
“This is clear that statehood for Delhi is not an issue for the Congress. On the other hand, the AAP making it the main issue. How will the alliance take place?” she asked.

SC Disposes Petition Seeking Interim Protection of Two GJM Leaders
The Supreme Court has disposed off petition of two Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) leaders Roshan Giri and Bimal Gurung, seeking a direction to grant them interim protection for three weeks to allow them to participate in the general elections, reported ANI.
The top court asked the GJM leaders to approach the Calcutta High Court for interim relief within four days. The SC has also asked Calcutta HC to expeditiously dispose off the matter and said that ‘no coercive action should be taken till the matter is heard by the Calcutta HC.’

Addressing a rally in the Upper Assam town of Bokakhat, Gandhi said the Congress, if voted to power, guarantees to deposit Rs 72,000 annually to 20 per cent poor Indian families under the NYAY scheme.
"Modi had promised to deposit money in the accounts of people, but he has done it only in the case of some rich businessmen like the Ambanis.
"The money (for NYAY scheme) will come from the pockets of 'chor' (thieves) like Anil Ambani, to whom Chowkidar Narendra Modi has given money during the last four years... We will deposit it in the accounts of the poor, particularly women, irrespective of their caste, class or religion," he said.
EC Seeks Details of Namo TV From I&B Ministry
The Election Commission is learnt to have sought details of Namo TV from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry after the issue was flagged by the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party which wanted to know whether political parties having their own channels was violative of the model code of conduct.
The Commission, among other issues, is learnt to have asked about details of the launch of the channel.
The channel, also called 'Content TV', carries the picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as its logo. It was launched ahead of Lok Sabha polls beginning 11 April. It is available on various DTH and cable TV platforms.
Rahul to File Nomination From Wayanad on 4 April; Priyanka May Accompany
Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who is contesting from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala in addition to his traditional stronghold of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, will file his nomination by 11 am on Thursday, senior party leader Ramesh Chennithala said.
Gandhi might be accompanied by his sister and AICC in-charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress sources told PTI.
They said the Congress chief will board a helicopter to Wayanad, about 90 km from here, to file his nomination.

The Congress has fielded its MLA CJ Chavda against BJP President Amit Shah from Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat in Gujarat.
The Opposition party released a list of names on late Tuesday night in which it mentioned four more candidates from the state, including Chavda.

Amidst allegations of jailed RJD president Lalu Prasad talking to his political associates over phone in violation of jail manual, authorities inspected his ward on Tuesday, but said they did not find anything objectionable.
The search was carried out by a joint team of the Birsa Munda prison officials and the Ranchi District Police, a senior police official said Wednesday.
Prasad has been sentenced in four fodder scam cases by different special CBI courts in Ranchi and is in prison from December 2017. However, the convicted RJD leader is admitted in the paying ward of the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for various ailments.

Dismissing the BJP allegation that the Congress manifesto for Lok Sabha polls was soft on terror, AICC in-charge of Congress affairs in Telangana R C Khuntia today said the ruling party should explain its record in handling security issues during the last five years.
"What are they doing? They should also explain....why terrorism is continuing? Why more forces are being killed? They should give the answer about five years," he told reporters here.

AAP Leader Bhagwant Mann Seeks Funds From People for Campaigning
Punjab AAP chief and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann has sought financial support from people for campaigning ahead of the general election.
Mann, who is seeking re-election from the constituency, uploaded a video on his Facebook page asking for financial aid to encourage people with "clean image" in politics.
"For campaigning (in Lok Sabha polls), money is needed and I am requesting you to give 'Dasvandh' (one-tenth of income) so we can encourage people with clean image. If people with clean image get defeated in politics because of shortage of funds, they will be hurt and in future, such people will not come forward," the comedian-turned-politician said.
Mann asserted that the funds received would be accounted for.
"You may send money in any denomination - Rs 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500. The funds, we receive, will be accounted for. When I get the required amount of funds, I will tell you that I now do not require more funds," he said.

CEO to Write to JK Admin as Cong Alleges Its Leaders' Security 'Withdrawn'

Rs 1.8 Cr Seized From Arunachal CM's Convoy, EC Should File Case Against PM: Cong
The Congress today alleged that a "cash for votes" scam was busted in Arunachal Pradesh with the recovery of Rs 1.8 crore in cash from Chief Minister Pema Khandu's convoy and asked the poll panel to register a case against Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as the chief minister and his deputy.
Accusing the BJP of using "money power" to woo voters in the northeast, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said Rs 1.8 crore was allegedly recovered from the chief minister's convoy in Pasighat around midnight, hours before Modi was to address a rally there on Wednesday morning.

112 FIRs, DD Entries Against Political Parties, Others for Poll Code Violation: Delhi CEO
As many as 112 FIRs and daily diary (DD) entries have been registered till date against various political parties and others for violation of the model code of conduct in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls, the poll body in Delhi said today.
The statistics surveillance team of Delhi's chief electoral office constituted to keep an eye on the expenses of political parties, has seized Rs 1.21 crore in cash.
"A total of 112 FIRs or DD entries have been lodged till date in connection with the violation of the model code of conduct.
"Out of these, 13 are against the Aam Aadmi Party (six FIRs and four DD entries), 11 against the Bharatiya Janata Party (eight FIRs and three DD entries), three against the Congress (all DD entries), one against the Bahujan Samaj Party (one DD entry) and Samajwadi Party (one DD entry), and 83 against others or non-political (entities)," the CEO office said in a statement.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi today kept up his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that while people were made to stand in queues for their own money during demonetisation, business tycoons who looted the country fled with the help of the "chowkidar".
"Mehul Choksi, Nirav Modi, Anil Ambani were not in line (outside banks). While you were busy standing in queues, India's thieves looted the money and fled with the help of the chowkidar (Modi)," he said at an election rally in Lakhimpur.

Union minister and senior BJP leader Maneka Gandhi today described BSP chief Mayawati as a "merchant of tickets" and alleged that she does not give her party tickets to anyone without taking money.
Maneka Gandhi, who is contesting from Sultanpur parliamentary constituency, also accused the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister of not being loyal to anyone.
"Mayawati does not spare her own partymen, then how will she spare the country and the state. She can't do without (currency) notes. She does not give her party's tickets to anyone without taking money. Mayawati is a saudagar (merchant) of tickets," she said addressing a meeting.

Senior Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav today alleged that Yogi Adityanath is an "incapable" chief minister and said he committed a "sin" by terming the Ardh Kumbh as Kumbh.
In 2017, the Uttar Pradesh government had said that the Ardh Kumbh would be referred to as Kumbh and the Kumbh as Maha Kumbh.

Slamming NC leader Omar Abdullah for advocating a separate prime minister for Jammu and Kashmir, BJP president Amit Shah today asked Congress chief Rahul Gandhi to clarify his stand on the issue raised by his electoral ally.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president also asserted that his party, whether in power or in opposition, would never let such a demand get fulfilled.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri today alleged that the AAP is seeking votes from Delhiites by spreading "lies" on several issues and asserted that a party which does not have the expertise of running an administration nor dedication towards works, is resorting to lies.
The Union Housing and Urban Affairs tweeted a purported campaign pamphlet of AAP's east Delhi candidate Atishi and said a bunch of lies has been prepared by her.

CPI Announces Candidates for Nine Seats in UP, MP, Jharkhand and Bihar
The Communist Party of India today announced its candidates for nine Lok Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bihar.
The candidate list released by the party includes East Champaran in Bihar, Chatra seat in Jharkhand and Shahdol in Madhya Pradesh as well as six seats in Uttar Pradesh.
The party has announced Prabhakar Jaiswal from the East Champaran seat, Arjun Kumar from Chatra and Keshkali Kol from Shahdol.
In Uttar Pradesh, the party has named Satish Kumar from the Bareilly seat, Chandra Koree from Shahjahanpur, Mahendra Pratap Verma from Banda, Ashish Singh from Gorakhpur, Triloki Nath from Lalganj and Santosh Pratap Singh from Balia.

Senior AAP leader Gopal Rai today asked the Congress to support the demand of full statehood for Delhi so that the people of the national capital can lead their lives with dignity.
In a letter to Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Rai said the grand old party should support the demand for full statehood to Delhi instead of proposing to amend GNCTD Act 1991.
In its manifesto released Tuesday, the Congress said it "promises to amend the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) Act, 1991 to make it clear that the lieutenant governor shall act on the aid and advice of the Council of Ministers except in matters concerning the three reserved subjects." Rai said this was "extremely disappointing."
MHA Issues Show-Cause Notice to Wife of Mamata's Nephew
A show-cause notice has been served on Rujira Naroola, wife of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee, for allegedly making false representation and concealing material facts while submitting documents before the competent authorities to get her Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and PAN cards, officials said today.
In the notice, the Home Ministry said discrepancies have been detected in the declaration of Naroola's nationality and father's name in separate applications for PIO card, conversion of Person of Indian Origin (PIO) to OCI card and PAN card and hence her registration as OCI cardholder is liable for cancellation in public interest.
Women Voters Outnumber Men in Puducherry
Puducherry has a total voter strength of 9.73 lakh with women outnumbering men, according to the electoral roll released ahead of the 18 April Lok Sabha election to the lone constituency in the union territory.
The number of women voters stood at 5.13 lakh while that of men 4.59 lakh and 96 voters come under the 'other' category, Chief Electoral officer V Candavelou said in a release.
The union territory has four regions - Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam.

Hardly had Modi concluded his speech at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata when Banerjee took the microphone at a rally in north Bengal's Dinhata, calling the prime minister "expiry babu" (one whose time to go had come).

Dubbing the Congress' election manifesto as a "bunch of lies", former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said even former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru did not try to repeal the sedition law, which the grand old party has now promised.
Chouhan also accused Congress president Rahul Gandhi of being an "international liar" saying that he is making false promises ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Delhi HC Asks EC to Decide by 4 April Plea Against AP Govt Schemes Ahead of Polls
The Delhi High Court today directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to decide by Thursday the representations of an organisation which has alleged that Andhra Pradesh government has attempted to influence voters by launching schemes, including giving monetary benefits, ahead of polls.
The organisation has alleged that disbursal of money under these schemes after Lok Sabha election has been notified amounted to violation of model code of conduct.
10 lakh first-timers among 4.51 crore voters in Gujarat
More than 4.51 crore voters, including 10.06 lakh first-timers, are eligible to exercise their franchise across the 26 Lok Sabha constituencies in Gujarat that goes to the polls on 23 April, a top official said today.
The figure, which saw a drop in third gender voters, was arrived at after revision of electoral rolls in the state.

Mining, CRZ to Be Highlights of Goa Congress' Manifesto for LS Polls
Resumption of iron ore mining and scrapping of the 2019 Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) notification would be the major promises in Congress' manifesto for Lok Sabha polls in Goa, a senior leader said today.
The date of the manifesto's release is yet to be announced.
The mining in Goa came to a grinding halt in March 2018 when the Supreme Court set aside renewal of 88 mining leases for illegalities.

The Congress today claimed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP were "rattled" after its manifesto promised to ensure justice to the people and that the PM's "frustration" was evident in his address to the rallies.
Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said the Congress manifesto is a result of dialogue which is diametrically opposite to Modi's monologue through his 'Mann Ki Baat' radio address.
