BJP President Amit Shah, PM Modi to Host NDA Allies on Tuesday

PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah will meet Union ministers of the party at the party headquarters before the BJP chief hosts a dinner for NDA partners on Tuesday, just two days ahead of the declaration of Lok Sabha poll results.

As most of the exit polls have predicted victory for the alliance, the ruling party has started preparations for celebrations and also for government formation immediately after the results are announced. The party has asked the district heads to intimate the candidates that those winning must reach the national capital the very next day (on 24 May).

Shah’s dinner meet for the alliance leaders is yet another signal by the party that it remains committed to the idea of strengthening the alliance and is not driven by over-confidence after some exit polls showed BJP could get a majority on its own.

Oppn to Meet EC Over Tallying of VVPAT Slips with EVM Figures

Ahead of the Lok Sabha poll results on 23 May, leaders of various opposition parties will meet the EC and raise the issue of tallying paper trail of votes (VVPATs) with electronic voting machine (EVM) figures as per Supreme Court directions.

The opposition parties are demanding tallying of VVPAT slips with EVM figures in an entire Assembly constituency in case a discrepancy is found in any polling booth.

The court has asked the EC to tally the VVPAT slips with the EVM figures of five polling stations in each Assembly constituency across the country, which may delay the results.
