Union minister Retd General VK Singh, on Friday, 5 April, downplayed the notice served by the Election Commission to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over his “Modi ki Sena” remark.

While speaking to news agency ANI, Singh said, “The Election Commission gives notice on 100 things!”.

This comes a day after Singh made a volte-face on his ‘traitor’ remark against Adityanath. In an interview to BBC Hindi, Singh had said that anyone who refers to the Indian Army as “Modi ji ki sena” (Modi’s army) is not only wrong, but also a “traitor”.

During an election campaign in Ghaziabad, Adityanath had said:

Congress ke log aatankwadiyon ko biryani khilate hai aur Modi ji ki sena aatankwadiyon ko goli aur gola deti hai (Congress people would feed biryani to terrorists, while Modi’s army gives them bullets and bombs). This is the difference. The Congress people use ‘ji’ in Masood Azhar’s name to encourage terrorism.”

However, on Friday, Singh alleged that the media had twisted both his and Adityanath’s comments.

“I have said what I have to say, now please don’t twist it. You have also twisted what Yogi Adityanath had said.”

On Thursday, after Singh had distanced himself from his comment made during the interview, BBC Hindi replied to his tweet by putting out the complete, unedited version of his interview.
