LS Elections: Polling Ends With 64% Voting in Gujarat, 73% in Goa

Polling concluded in the three states and two Union territories of western India in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday, 23 April, with Goa recording a voter turnout of 73.23 percent.

Meanwhile, the 14 seats in Maharashtra recorded a turnout of 58.98 percent, while Gujarat’s 26 seats saw 63.67 percent of the electorate exercising their franchise.

In the Union territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu, the turnout stood at 71.43 percent and 65.34 percent respectively.

Note that these are interim figures and are expected to rise.

PM Narendra Modi was among the voters in the third phase of polling. After casting his vote in Ahmedabad, he urged others to come out and vote, saying “the power of the voter ID is more than that of an IED”.

Out of the 117 seats that went to polls in the third and largest phase, 44 were in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

The total voter turnout for the third phase has been recorded at 65.61 percent till 8 pm.
