Dear Modiji,
I'm Madhur Jain, a practising chartered accountant based in Guwahati, Assam, where the BJP has been recently been elected to take over the state government.
Demonetisation was a huge policy and I was expecting to see some visible changes in the daily functioning of various people; especially government departments.
As part of my profession, I’m required to constantly visit various government departments on behalf of my clients and my only expectation from the demonetisation move was to see some reduction in corruption in these departments. But I’m deeply saddened to report that this move must have changed the whole world for the citizens of this country but has drastically failed to impact the corruption scenario in government departments.
Especially the Sales Tax department of the state of Assam. Corruption in this department is still at its peak and the state government is least bothered or is ignoring it for some reason.
Also, as a professional, I'm pretty sure that the implementation of the GST will allow these sales tax officers to find newer opportunities to demand money from the people. This is quite visible in the transition phase itself.
