Rs 20 Lakh Seized from BJP Member Who Supported Currency Ban

JVR Arun, BJP’s youth wing secretary from Salem, was arrested with bundles of currency notes amounting to Rs 20.55 lakh.

In a post on Facebook, Arun, 36 praised demonetisation and wrote, “For the progress of my country, I m ready to stand in the queue.”

There were 926 notes of Rs 2,000 denomination, 1,530 0f Rs 100 and 1,000 of Rs 50 notes in the bundle, The Indian Express reported.

While the Income Tax department is probing into the source of the money, BJP spokesperson said Arun has been served a showcase notice.

The Indian Express quoted the BJP spokesperson as saying:

If his reply is not satisfactory, he will be removed from the party post.

However, BJP state president Tamilisai Soundarajan said Arun has already been removed from the party.
