It has been eleven days since Prime Minister Narendra Modi suddenly announced his decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.

Those who are routinely queueing at banks and ATMs must have also noticed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s face stretched across billboards carrying the message of demonetisation.

The ads contain details of how to get old currencies exchanges along with messages such as “My money is safe” and “People with integrity need not be scared” to ensure people don’t panic at the idea of demonetisation.

A report published in Live Mint says the billboard advertisements are a part of the promotional campaign of the demonetising drive. The NDA alliance allegedly spent Rs 10 crore on these advertisements which include ads on print media and radio commercials.

Quoting an unnamed sources, the report said that expenditure on demonetisation is lesser than ads of other government schemes such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan for which the government allegedly paid Rs 100 crore.

This expenditure was 23 percent of the total advertising budget of Rs 170 crore allotted to the ministry of information and broadcasting.
