India lost the fourth ODI to West Indies by 11 runs at North Sound on Sunday, and former captain MS Dhoni created a record that he would like to forget very quickly.

Dhoni, who scored 54 runs off 114 balls, recorded the slowest half-century (108 balls) by an Indian since 2001. He went past Sourav Ganguly’s record against Sri Lanka (105 balls) in 2005 and Bangladesh (104 balls) in 2007.

The wicketkeeper batsman walked into bat when India were in a precarious situation at 47/3, while chasing West Indies’ total of 189 runs.

Dhoni joined Rahane in the 13th over and the duo added just 54 runs in 108 deliveries. They recorded a run rate of 2.97 in 18.1 overs.

Thereafter, the wickets kept falling at regular intervals and the pressure kept mounting on Dhoni.

Towards the end of the innings, India was still in the match as MS Dhoni was at the crease. When India required 14 off 7 balls, Dhoni holed out a catch to Alzarri Joseph at long-on.

That was game, set and match for India.
