Xuhaib Maqbool is a freelance photo-journalist based in Kashmir. He was left blind in the left eye after being struck by pellets fired by security personnel on 4 September 2016. The incident took place while he was out covering the protests following the death of militant commander Burhan Wani.
In his heart-wrenching letter to India, Maqbool thanks India for blinding him. He says, ”If I am a bad Indian, you please be good Indians and tell your cops not to target Journalists. Journalists are not meant to be targeted.”
(Do you ever feel like talking to India? Yes? Perfect. How about you write to her and tell her if you’re a good Indian or a bad one? You could be bitchy, angry, happy, emotional or humorous . But if your answer is No – never mind, there is always a beginning. So let’s start here.
Don’t be shy; say it all. Mail us your letter at lettertoindia@thequint.com. We’ll ensure India gets your message.)
