Akshay Kumar’s public service feature film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha got a decent box-office opening on day one with a collection of Rs 13.10 Crore. And by all yardsticks, it looks like it has ended the dry spell of the Bollywood box office and would turn into another major money-spinner for Akshay.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha collected Rs 17.10 crore on day 2, notching up total earnings to Rs 30.20 crore. Riding on word of mouth publicity, the Akshay Kumar-Bhumi Pednekar film is expected to rake in around Rs 48 crore in weekend business.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film is doing well in the ‘mass’ circuits as well as striking a chord with multiplex audiences. And this is translating into fantastic numbers.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha traces Keshav (Akshay Kumar) and Jaya's (Bhumi Pednekar) love story, and carries a strong social message. Jaya returns to her parent’s home just a few days after getting married to Keshav, due to the lack of a toilet in her new home. Toilet Ek Prem Katha stresses on the fact that in India, the use of toilets is more about bringing about a change in archaic mindsets, rather than simply the logistics of the mammoth task.
