Nepotism doesn’t rock. And it would be nice to have nepotists not scream and shout about it from rooftops.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably know that Varun Dhawan, along with Saif Ali Khan and Karan Johar took a sly dig at Kangana Ranaut at the IIFA Awards recently held in New York. The three proudly spoke about making it big in Bollywood because of their family connections. And for good measure, even yelled, “Nepotism rocks!” in unison.

For obvious reasons, they received a lot of flak on social media for their privileged and unfunny remarks.

Following the criticism, Varun on Tuesday took to Twitter to apologise for “offending or hurting” sentiments.

Varun had joined the two hosts of the evening at IIFA (Karan and Saif) on the stage and joked that he has made a name for himself in the industry only because of his father, director David Dhawan.

"You are here because of your papa," said Saif, to which Varun said: "And you’re here because of your mummy (veteran actress Sharmila Tagore)."

Karan then promptly added: "I am here because of my papa (late filmmaker Yash Johar)." Together they yelled: "Nepotism rocks".

Nepotism doesn’t rock. And it would be nice to have nepotists not scream and shout about it from rooftops.
