Last December, the city of Chennai came to a standstill when former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa passed away. A year on, the political void she left in Tamil Nadu remains just as deep.

Life-size posters, thousands of cadres, floral tributes and candles sums up the situation in Chennai on the first death anniversary of the towering figure who was often referred to as ‘Amma’ by the people of Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam held a rally from Anna Salai to Amma’s memorial commemorating their leader. The faction called it the ‘peace march’. The faction along with several AIADMK cadres paid a floral tribute at the Jaya Memorial in Marina Beach. Another peace rally was held by TTV Dinakaran and his supporters who also paid a floral tribute at the Jaya memorial.

Thousands of supporters thronged Marina beach to pay their respects on the 1st death anniversary of their much revered leader.

When she was alive we had no worries. Now, we are suffering everyday. We have too many difficulties. Our mother has left us alone.

AIADMK cadres in Coimbatore paid their respects to the recently constructed golden statue of Jayalalithaa built next to the statues of AIADMK patriarch’s Annadurai and MG Ramachandran.

Amma worked all her life for the people. Amma is God for us. Even though she is no more, she will always be with us. One crore cadres will always think of Amma. She is the reason we are prospering.

It’s been one year since Tamil Nadu lost one of it’s most revered and celebrated leaders. But, the political turmoil in the state doesn’t seem to have come to a standstill.
