Kumar Vishwas, a renowned poet and former AAP leader, has sparked controversy with his recent comments on the interfaith marriage of film actor Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal. The couple tied the knot in June 23, 2024, in a civil ceremony under the Special Marriage Act. But his poetic remark added fuel to the on-going controversy after the marriage took place.

Vishwas was once known for his romantic and social commentary on harmony and solidarity. But his poetic satire has sparked controversy among people. During a speech at the Meerut Mahotsav on 21st December 2024, Vishwas made the controversial remark, "Teach your children the names of the sisters of Sita and brothers of Ram. Make them listen to The Ramayana, and teach them Geeta. Otherwise it should not happen that the name of your house may be Ramayana but someone else may take away the Shri Lakshmi of your house"

His words led many to accuse him of indirectly targeting Sonakshi and her father, Shatrughan Sinha, without taking their names. Kumar Vishwas later defended that his statements were not intended for Sonakshi Sinha and clarified that it was in reference to the names of his neighbourhood where he lives in Ghaziabad.

The shift in Vishwas' poetry has led his followers to raise questions. His comments, once about rebellion against hatred have now moved towards supporting a more divided message, leaving many to wonder what has changed for the poet who once spoke so strongly of national unity.
