WhatsApp is busy with filtering content on its platform, but it’s also working on a new set of features. The latest option users can expect to see is a strange one and WABetaInfo is the first to get the details about it.

Apparently, WhatsApp on Android which will soon get fingerprint lock support for accounts, will be blocking the ability to take screenshots of the chat, when that security option is enabled.

Not sure how blocking of screenshots is needed, especially when the security feature is enabled for the user, unless you’re handing the device to another person.

We’re not sure if the feature will make its way to both Android and iOS or just one of them. Either ways, users are still waiting for the official roll out of the fingerprint sensor lock feature, which till now has been only available to beta users.

Block screenshots of chats, but why?
When the Authentication feature will be enabled, your fingerprint is obviously required to open WhatsApp, but conversation screenshots are blocked. It means you will no longer be able to screenshot your chats if you enable that feature.

As seen in the beta version, the fingerprint authentication feature can be enabled in Settings, although this feature is disabled by default.

In order to activate the feature post the update is rolled out, users will have to go to Settings >Account >Privacy > Use Fingerprint to Unlock.

After how long would you want your WhatsApp to be locked?

After the feature is enabled the app will ask you the duration after which you want the app to be locked: After 1 minute, after 10 minutes or after 30 minutes.
