India’s Mehuli Ghosh won a silver and Apurvi Chandela won a bronze medal in the 10 metre air rifle event at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast on Monday.

Mehuli Ghosh missed the gold medal by a whisker when she and Singapore’s Martina Lindsay Veloso finished with the same score of 247.2. In the sudden death round, Veloso shot 10.3 to take the gold, while Ghosh shot 9.9 to settle for a silver medal.

Apurvi Chandela was in a great position to win a silver medal but two shots of 9.9 and 9.4 pushed her to the third place with a total score of 225.3.

Earlier in the day, Apurvi set a new CWG record of 423.2 to clinch the top spot in the qualifying stage. She beat her own previous CWG record of 415.6 which was set at CWG 2014. Ghosh registered 413.7 to finish fifth in the qualification stage.
