Qatar Airways' Delhi-Doha Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Karachi

A Doha-based Qatar Airways flight from Delhi to Doha on Monday, 21 March, made an emergency landing in Karachi, Pakistan.

The Qatar Airways flight QR579 was diverted to Karachi after it declared an emergency due to the indication of smoke detected in the cargo hold.

"The aircraft landed safely at Karachi where it was met by emergency services and passengers disembarked orderly via stairs," the airline said in a statement.

The flight took off from Delhi at 3.50 am on Monday and landed at Karachi at 5:30 am.

"The incident is currently under investigation and a relief flight is being arranged to transport passengers onwards to Doha," the airline added in the statement.

Later in the day, Qatar Airways issued an official statement, saying:

"Qatar Airways flight QR579, passengers on a diverted flight to Karachi, have now departed on a relief flight & will land in Doha at 4.15PM local time where they will be assisted with their onward connections."
